Mohammad Amjad Hossain, a former Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development and Co-operatives, and his son have been detained.
They were arrested during a joint forces operation conducted in the early hours of Sunday (3 November) night.
Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed of Uttara West Police Station said that the joint forces executed a raid lasting nearly three hours at Amjad Hossain’s residence in Sector 11 of Uttara.
During the operation, authorities seized cash amounting to 1 crore 9 lakh taka, various foreign currencies, several branded wristwatches, and 11 iPhones from the flats located on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the building.
The former additional secretary, Mohammad Amjad Hossain Khan, and his son have been taken into custody, and necessary legal actions are being undertaken to present them before the court, added Abu Sayeed.
Amjad Hossain, who retired as additional secretary from the Ministry of Rural Development and Co-operatives in 2020, hails from Gazipur Sadar.
