In response to a demonstration at the Secretariat demanding the cancellation and re-issuance of exam results, 26 students have been charged while another 28 were released upon signing undertakings, said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations Division) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said on Thursday (24 October) a total of 54 students were detained in connection with the protest.
"Of these, 28 were freed after providing written assurances, while formal charges were pressed against the remaining students. A case has been filed at the Shahbagh Police Station," he added.
The protest was sparked by students who had failed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams.
At around 2:50pm on Wednesday (23 October), over a hundred students forced their way into the secretariat, demanding the cancellation of their results and the issuance of revised ones.
Security forces, including the army and police, dispersed the demonstrators.
The students were protesting for a reassessment of their exam results and the correction of errors in the current results. They demanded that their HSC results align with their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results.
Additionally, they called for justice regarding the alleged attacks on them by various boards.
The protesters declared that they would not leave the secretariat until their demands were met.
However, law enforcement soon disbanded the gathering.
