Twenty-four people, including restaurant owners and employees, were arrested during raids conducted in various areas under Kamrangirchar Thana in the capital on Tuesday (5 March).

The arrests were made on various charges, including irregularities and mismanagement," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Lalbagh Zone) Imran Hossain Molla, who led the operation, told Bangladesh First.

He said the main purpose of the operation is to raise awareness about the use of flammable materials.

"Legal action is being taken and warnings are being issued if irregularities and mismanagement are found anywhere," he added.

"We are checking whether the hotels and restaurants have proper approval, whether gas cylinders are being used in safe places, how durable the security system is, and whether fire extinguishers and risk factors are being properly checked," said the police official.

He noted a trend of indifference among almost everyone regarding the use of gas cylinders.

Imran Hossain also added that the ongoing operations will continue to prevent major fire accidents.

Present at the time were Deputy Police Commissioner of Lalbagh Division Mahbub-uz-Zaman, ADC Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar police station Saiful Islam, Police Inspector (Investigation) Md Fazlur Rahman, and the in-charge of the police station.
