Seven more people have died from dengue in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 257 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 1,139 new patients were hospitalised with dengue-related viral fever. Of those, 230 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, and 179 under Dhaka South City Corporation. Currently, 3,838 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Since 1 January 2024, a total of 52,058 dengue cases have been reported. Last year saw the deadliest dengue outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 reported cases. Of those, 318,749 patients recovered, according to DGHS data.
