Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said the interim government is committed to bringing back the money looted from Bangladesh by the ousted Sheikh Hasina regime and its cronies.

"A task force is currently engaged in the process. There is no need to form a separate commission for this endeavour," he said addressing journalists following a meeting of the Procurement Advisory Committee at the secretariat on Sunday (20 October).

The adviser stated that information regarding money laundering is being collected, and technical assistance is required to facilitate this effort.

However, he could not provide a specific timeline for when the funds would be returned.

"The task force is working to bring back the embezzled funds. This recovery is not an overnight process; therefore, it will take time," he added.

Furthermore, the adviser noted that both governmental and private sector initiatives are underway to restore stability in the market. Agencies such as the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Open Market Sales (OMS), and the Department of Agricultural Marketing are actively involved in these efforts, alongside various private sector initiatives that have been welcomed.

He also indicated that prices for essential commodities, including vegetables and eggs, are expected to stabilise. The scope of product sales through TCB will be expanded, with plans to increase sales beyond Dhaka as well.
