A recent report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has disclosed that 41.7 million people in Bangladesh are currently living in extreme poverty, with 6.5% of this population classified as being in critical condition.

The report, titled "Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2024: Poverty in Conflict" was released on Thursday (17 October) in collaboration with the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, according to local media sources.

It examined poverty trends across 112 countries, and revealed that 1.1 billion people worldwide are suffering from extreme poverty, with nearly half of this number residing in conflict-affected areas.

South Asia, including Bangladesh, remains one of the most severely impacted regions.
