The advisory council of the interim government has approved the holiday calendar for 2025. According to the new schedule, the public holidays for the upcoming year will include six days for Eid-ul-Azha and five days for Eid-ul-Fitr. Additionally, two days of holidays have been granted for Durga Puja, the major religious festival for Hindus.

The decision was made during a meeting of the advisory council on Thursday (17 October), held at the Chief Advisor's office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, under the chairmanship of Dr Muhammad Yunus.

For both Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fitr, one day will be designated as a general public holiday. The remaining days surrounding the festivals will be granted as holidays by executive order, allowing for a total of six days for Eid-ul-Azha and five days for Eid-ul-Fitr.

Durga Puja, the largest Hindu festival, will have one general public holiday on the day of Bijoya Dashami, with an additional holiday on the day of Navami granted by executive order.

Currently, the public holidays for both Eids are limited to three days, and Durga Puja receives just one day. However, this year, an additional day of holiday for Puja was granted by executive order.
