Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has acknowledged that despite efforts to stabilise the market, some people continue to struggle due to the cost of essential goods, emphasising that further reductions in prices are necessary.

Speaking at the secretariat on Wednesday (5 March) after a meeting of the Advisory Council on Procurement, he stated, "The prices of goods have not increased compared to last year. However, the government is actively working to bring them down further. We recognise that some people are facing difficulties, and we acknowledge the need for further price reductions."

Addressing concerns over economic stagnation and rising unemployment, the adviser noted that the government is attempting to revive business activities through financial assistance and stimulus measures across various sectors.

"Efforts are underway to create employment opportunities. Reducing the unemployment rate will contribute to overall economic improvement, and discussions have taken place with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on this matter," he added.

Commenting on the closure of businesses under the previous administration, Salehuddin Ahmed remarked that many of these enterprises had shut down due to their own operational challenges.

He assured that efforts would be made to facilitate employment for workers from these businesses, although he acknowledged that it would not be possible for the government to provide jobs for everyone.
