The government has taken the initiative to sell 10 agricultural products to consumers at affordable prices in 20 locations, Finance and Commerce Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed announced today.
Speaking at the launch of the Agricultural Open Market Sale (OMS) programme in front of the Food Building in the capital on Tuesday (15 October), Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed highlighted that the initiative aims to benefit consumers by offering essential products at prices within their purchasing capacity.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed stated, "Our goal is to ensure that consumers can purchase essential items at reasonable prices. We seek everyone's cooperation in making this initiative a success."
Agriculture and Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury added, "With the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Food, we have launched this programme to provide eggs, potatoes, onions, and vegetables to the public at fair prices."
The event was also attended by Commerce Ministry Secretary Mohang Selim Uddin, Agriculture Ministry Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, and Director General of the Department of Agricultural Marketing, Masud Karim.
Initially, these agricultural products will be available through truck sales at 20 locations across the capital, including the Khaddo Bhaban, Manik Mia Avenue, Mirpur-10, Basabo, Bosila, Rayer Bazar, Rajarbagh, Mugda-North, Mugda-South, Palashi Mor, Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur, Gabtoli, Mohakhali Bus Stand, Begunbari, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan, Kamrangirchar, Rampura, and Jhigatola.
Under this programme, consumers will be able to purchase 1 kg of potatoes for Tk30, one dozen eggs for Tk130, 1 kg of onions for Tk70, 1 kg of green papaya for Tk20, and a 5 kg package of various green vegetables at affordable prices.
