Flights carrying Bangladeshi pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the holy Hajj pilgrimage will commence on Tuesday (29 April).
A F M Khalid Hossain, the religious affairs adviser to the caretaker government, will formally inaugurate the Hajj flight operations.
This year, 87,100 Bangladeshis are scheduled to perform Hajj.
Of them, 5,200 pilgrims will travel under government management, while the remaining 81,900 will proceed through private arrangements. On Tuesday, the first group of 419 pilgrims is set to depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:15am for Saudi Arabia.
To ensure seamless Hajj management, 112 guides under government supervision and 1,743 guides from private agencies have been deployed.
In addition, 70 Muallims will assist pilgrims throughout the process.
For the transportation of pilgrims, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate 118 flights, Saudia Airlines will run 80 flights, and NAS Airlines will operate 34 flights, with outbound operations continuing until 31 May.
Return flights are scheduled to begin on 10 June and will conclude on 10 July.
Subject to the sighting of the moon, the Hajj is expected to take place on 5 June.
