UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Rt Hon the Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster DBE, is visiting Dhaka to strengthen and expand the long-standing economic and trade partnership between the UK and Bangladesh.
During her visit, she will meet key officials from the Interim Government of Bangladesh, political parties, and business leaders. She will also participate in the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 alongside Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to South Asia.
On her first visit to Bangladesh as UK Trade Envoy, Baroness Winterton will meet Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Special Envoy on International Affairs Professor Lutfey Siddiqi, Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce Sheikh Bashir Uddin, and Adviser to the Ministry of Education Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar.
Her meetings will focus on deepening trade and investment ties between the two countries, fostering economic growth, and creating jobs. She will also meet with key business stakeholders and deliver a keynote speech at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Bangladesh Investment Summit on 9 April 2025 to highlight the UK government’s commitment to economic growth.
Baroness Winterton’s discussions will cover the UK’s collaboration with the Interim Government on vital economic reforms, the advantages of duty-free, quota-free access to the UK market until 2029, and ways to strengthen trade and investment in education, aviation, defense, and renewable energy.

As one of the largest foreign investors in Bangladesh, the UK aims to deepen collaboration in key sectors, including education, aviation, defense, and renewable energy.
The visit will also explore opportunities to expand the presence of UK educational institutions, highlighting major investment prospects and reaffirming the UK’s long-term commitment to strengthening economic ties with Bangladesh.
