Both stock markets begin week on a positive note

The week’s first trading session concluded on a high note in both the Dhaka and Chattogram stock exchanges, with indices experiencing an upward trend on Sunday.

On the day, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw its key index, DSEX, gain 23 points. The other two indices, the Shariah-based DSES and the blue-chip DS30, rose by 3 points and 11 points, respectively.

The total transaction value for the day stood at Tk 487 crore, up from the previous session’s Tk 465 crore.

Out of 398 traded companies, the share prices of 217 increased, 124 declined, while 57 remained unchanged.

In terms of categories, the majority of shares in the A and B categories registered a price increase, whereas most shares in the Z category saw a decline.

Among the 100 Z-category companies traded, 35 witnessed price appreciation, 44 recorded a decline, and 21 remained unchanged.

A majority of the 37 mutual funds experienced a rise in price, with 33 increasing in value, one declining, and three remaining stable.

In the block market, 30 companies exchanged 3.9 million shares worth Tk 8.23 crore. Jamuna Bank topped the block market transactions, selling 810,000 shares worth Tk 1.70 crore.

S Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited emerged as the top gainer in the DSE, with its B-category stock appreciating by 9.74% in a single trading session.

On the other hand, Atlas Bangladesh Limited saw the steepest fall, losing more than 5.5% of its value.

Chattogram Stock Exchange

Similar to Dhaka, the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also witnessed an upward trend in its indices. The overall CSE index climbed 16 points.

Out of 212 traded companies in CSE, share prices of 109 increased, 78 declined, and 25 remained unchanged.

Despite the index rising, total transactions in CSE declined compared to the last session of the previous week. The day's total turnover stood at Tk 10 crore, down from Tk 13 crore in the preceding trading session.

S Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited also led the gainers in Chattogram, registering a 10% price hike.

Meanwhile, ICB Employees Provident Mutual Fund One suffered the biggest loss, dropping 10% in value.
