Unidentified assailants shot dead Mamun Hossain, the joint convener of the Fatullah chapter of Swechasebak Dal, in Narayanganj's Sadar upazila during the early hours of Friday (7 February).
The incident occurred near the Pakistani Khader area in Kotalerbagh.
According to Azad Mia, the manager of Mamun's business establishment, Mamun completed his accounts around 2am before leaving for home. Thereafter, all attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
Around 4:30am, Azad was alerted by the sound of gunfire.
Stepping outside, he witnessed two young men fleeing the scene and soon discovered Mamun's blood-soaked body lying on the ground.
Mamun was rushed to Khanpur Hospital in the city, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Zakir Hossain Robin, the convener of Fatullah Swechasebak Dal, stated, "Mamun was always present with supporters at any party activity. He played an active role in the anti-autocracy movement, for which he was repeatedly arrested under fabricated charges." He has urged for the immediate arrest of Mamun’s killers.
Sub-Inspector Mostafa Kamal Khan of Fatullah Model Police Station said, "The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits."
