European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed the European Union's interest in enhancing its partnership with Bangladesh through a potential Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

In a letter to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, von der Leyen emphasised the EU's readiness to support Bangladesh in its reform process, aiming for peaceful and inclusive governance that upholds democratic principles, human rights, and the rule of law.

The letter also highlighted ongoing EU collaborations with Bangladesh in sustainable development, green transition, combating corruption, and advancing digital financial systems. It outlined potential investment opportunities under the Global Gateway initiative, focusing on secure networks, climate adaptation, railways, water resources, health, digitalization, and energy.

President von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU's commitment to bolstering Bangladesh’s key institutions by providing technical assistance for policy development and governance improvement.

To ensure effective collaboration, she proposed regular coordination meetings to review EU programs and address new areas of mutual interest.

The EU president also expressed her gratitude for Professor Yunus's invitation to visit Bangladesh and extended her wishes for the successful implementation of shared priorities between the two nations.

This initiative signals the EU's commitment to deepening bilateral ties and supporting Bangladesh's progress toward sustainable development and effective governance.
