The Acting Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Nardia Simpson, has reaffirmed Australia’s support for the Interim Government and its reform initiatives.

Simpson expressed her sentiments during a farewell call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Sunday.

In their discussion, the High Commissioner reflected on the significant events of July and August, emphasising Australia’s solidarity with the people of Bangladesh. Issues of mutual interest between the two nations were also addressed.

Describing her time in Bangladesh, Simpson said, “It was emotional. We have been on the journey with the people of Bangladesh.” She praised Bangladeshis for their generosity and hospitality, noting that her four years in the country had been "wonderful."

Professor Yunus extended an invitation to Simpson to participate in events marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising in August. He mentioned that the government also plans to invite other ambassadors who were in Bangladesh during the student-led revolution.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser highlighted his commitment to fostering political dialogue. He stated that a consensus-building commission would lead discussions with political parties, focusing on the findings of major reform commissions.

Lamiya Morshed, the Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs, was also present during the meeting.
