The second unit of the Payra 1320MW thermal power plant in Patuakhali has resumed electricity generation after nearly two months of maintenance work.

The unit began production at approximately 9:30pm on Monday (6 January), said Shah Moni Jiko, assistant manager of the Payra Power Plant.

Previously, the second unit halted electricity production for maintenance on 9 November 2024.

Following the resumption, both units at the Payra power plant are now supplying a total of 1320MW of electricity to the national grid.

Payra 1320 MW thermal power plant, located in Kalapara, was established as a joint venture between Bangladesh and China, under the Bangladesh China Power Company Limited (BCPCL).

After receiving environmental clearance in 2016, construction of the project commenced in 2017.

The first unit, with a capacity of 660 MW, began operations on 15 May 2020, and the second unit achieved its full production capacity in December 2020.
