Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister of India and the President of the Indian National Congress on the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and a close friend of the Chief Adviser.
In his condolence messages, Professor Yunus paid tribute to Dr. Singh, describing him as a visionary leader, a statesman of great humility, and a steadfast advocate for the welfare of the Indian people. He lauded the late Prime Minister’s remarkable contributions to India's economic transformation, which left a lasting legacy on the nation.
Highlighting Dr. Singh’s role in fostering regional cooperation, Professor Yunus emphasized his dedication to advancing South Asian peace, prosperity, and collaboration. He urged South Asian nations to honour Dr. Singh's legacy by working together to promote shared development and cooperation.
The Chief Adviser also reflected on his cherished memories with Dr. Singh, including the warm congratulatory message sent by the late Indian Prime Minister upon Professor Yunus winning the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2006. He recalled their meetings in January 2007 in New Delhi and December 2009, when Professor Yunus delivered the 2nd Prof. Hiren Mukerjee Annual Parliamentary Lecture in the presence of members of both houses of the Indian Parliament, including the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha.
On behalf of the Government and people of Bangladesh, Professor Yunus extended his deepest sympathies to the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Government of India, and the Indian people.
