A seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the recent fire at building 7 of the Secretariat and submit recommendations for preventing such incidents in the future

The Cabinet Division has constituted a seven-member committee to investigate the fire incident at building 7 of the secretariat.

An official order to this effect was issued on Thursday (26 December).

The committee, headed by Additional Secretary (District and Field Administration) Mohammad Khaled Rahim, includes representatives from various ministries and organisations. A representative from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, not below the rank of joint secretary, will serve as the committee's member secretary.

Other members of the committee comprise representatives, also not below the rank of joint secretary, from the public security division, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and the Local Government Division, alongside representatives from Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The committee has been tasked with identifying the source and cause of the fire, determining any personal or professional liabilities associated with the incident, and submitting recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future. It has been granted the authority to co-opt additional members if necessary and is required to submit its report within seven working days.
