A low-pressure zone has formed in the central and adjoining areas of the southern Bay of Bengal, which is expected to influence weather conditions across several regions of the country, said  the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In its latest weather update on Wednesday (18 December), BMD has forecast light rain in parts of the Khulna division on Thursday (19 December), and moderate to heavy rainfall in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions over the subsequent 72 hours, beginning Friday (20 December).

According to the forecast, the low-pressure system currently lies over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, with its trough extending towards the northern Bay of Bengal.

Additionally, the subcontinental high-pressure ridge stretches into West Bengal and its neighbouring areas.

The meteorological outlook predicts predominantly dry conditions across the country under a partly cloudy sky.

However, isolated areas in Khulna may experience light rainfall.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to remain steady, while daytime temperatures may drop slightly.

From midnight to morning, some parts of the country could experience light to moderate fog.

For 20 December, rainfall accompanied by thundershowers is likely in parts of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions within 24 hours starting at 9am.

Other regions are forecast to experience dry weather under partly cloudy skies.

During this period, nighttime temperatures might rise slightly, while daytime temperatures could decline by 1–3°C.

Light to moderate fog is also expected in some areas from midnight to early morning.

Over the next five days, the rainfall trend may persist, with a further decrease in daytime temperatures anticipated during the initial half of this period.
