A Dhaka court has granted a 5-day remand for former Rail Minister Nurul Islam in a case filed at Jatrabari Police Station, accusing him of the murder of Rafiq Islam.

The investigating officer of the case subsequently requested a ten-day remand to further probe the case on Sunday (22 September).

In response, the defence appealed for the remand to be cancelled and sought bail for the accused.

However, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain approved a five-day remand for Nurul Islam.

Previously, on the evening of 16 September, Nurul Islam Sujon, the former Rail Minister, was arrested from Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital's Shyamoli area.
