15 people were killed after a Russian military cargo plane crashed on Tuesday. The crashed occurred when one of the aircraft engines caught on fire, Reuters reported.
Russia's defense ministry said that the plane crashed in the Ivanono region. According to online news services in Russia, there were no survivors.
Unverified videos circulating on Russian social media showed the aircraft with a flaming engine descending, while a helicopter hovered nearby amidst a rising plume of smoke.
The Ministry of Defense has stated that an engine fire during takeoff is believed to be the main cause of the recent crash. The aircraft involved in the incident is the Il-76, a heavy-lift transport plane that has been in service since the 1970s.
This type of plane has been used by both the Soviet and Russian air force. The crash occurred on a day when the Defense Ministry reported numerous attacks on Russia by Ukrainian drones. It is worth noting that as the number of Russian military flights increased during the conflict in Ukraine, so did the number of crashes.
