RMG factories in Savar-Ashulia resume operations following negotiations between workers, BGMEA

In response to demands made by garment workers, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has decided to reopen all factories in the Savar-Ashulia industrial zone from today, with an increase in tiffin allowances and attendance bonuses.

As of Tuesday (10 September) morning, nearly all factories in the Savar-Ashulia industrial area have resumed operations.

Workers reported to their workplaces at the scheduled time, with a peaceful atmosphere prevailing across the zone under the watchful eye of law enforcement agencies.

To prevent any untoward incidents, additional police personnel have been deployed in front of the factories.

Moreover, joint forces are continuing their patrols throughout the industrial zone to maintain order.

Meanwhile, due to unresolved issues between workers and owners over various demands and internal matters, 79 factories in the Ashulia industrial area remained closed yesterday.

However, no reports of unrest were received during this period.

Following a meeting held on Monday (9 September) at the BGMEA headquarters with workers, owners, and law enforcement representatives, it was agreed to increase tiffin allowances and attendance bonuses while ensuring equal employment rights for both men and women in garment factories.

The meeting concluded with the decision to reopen all factories in the industrial zone.
