Dhaka has been in the chokehold of traffic gridlock as a group of students under the banner of the "Technical Student Movement" staged a roadblock Tejgaon to press home their six-point demands.
The protest commenced at 12:00 pm on Monday (9 September), said witnesses.
According to eyewitnesses, the students have blocked the road to protest against the cancellation of non-technical appointments in technical positions, among other demands. They have stated that they will remain on the road until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the roadblock has caused severe traffic congestion in and around the Tejgaon Industrial Area, resulting in long queues of vehicles.
In response, Gazi Shamimur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, stated that the students from Dhaka Polytechnic Institute are protesting for their six-point agenda.
He acknowledged that the roadblock has led to a standstill in traffic and assured that efforts are being made to control the situation.
