One Bangladeshi was killed, and two others were injured in a shooting by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kanti Vita border in Dhantola Union of Baliadangi Upazila, Thakurgaon.
The incident occurred late on Sunday (8 September_ night, when the BSF stationed at Dingapara, India, opened fire as the group attempted to cross into India near main pillar No. 393 of the Dhantola border.
The deceased, identified as Sri Jayanta Kumar Sinha, 15, was fatally shot inside Indian territory.
Jayanta Kumar Sinha was the son of Sri Mahadev Kumar Sinha from Fakir Vita village in Baliadangi Upazila.
According to local sources, two others who were with him were injured in the incident and managed to flee back to Bangladesh, where they are reportedly receiving treatment at a private clinic in Rangpur in secret.
The injured have been identified as Sri Mahadev Kumar Sinha of Fakir Vita Bel Pukur village and Bangthu Mohammad, son of Darbar Ali of Nitaldoba village.
Officer-in-Charge of Baliadangi Police Station, Feroz Kabir, confirmed the incident, stating that the reason for their presence at the border is still unknown.
He also mentioned that the body of the deceased remains in BSF custody.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzir Ahmad, Commander of the Thakurgaon (50 BGB) Battalion, acknowledged hearing about the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing, with further details to follow.
