The online return filing system for individual taxpayers has been updated for the current fiscal year, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The system will be available to taxpayers from Monday (9 September).

NBR disclosed this information in a recent notification, emphasising its commitment to building a taxpayer-friendly, transparent, and accountable tax management system.

In line with the Income Tax Act 2023 and Finance Act 2024, the upgrade of the e-return system for filing online returns for the 2024-2025 tax year has been completed.

Taxpayers will have access to the system starting from 9th September.

With this upgraded e-return system, individual taxpayers can prepare their returns, submit them online, or print copies for offline submission. They can also pay taxes through online banking, credit/debit cards, or mobile financial services such as Nagad, bKash, and Rocket.

Additionally, they will receive instant confirmation of return submission, along with income tax and TIN certificates. Taxpayers will also be able to access copies of their previous year's e-returns and download or print proof of return submission.

To register on the system, a taxpayer’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and a biometric-verified mobile number registered in the taxpayer’s name will be required.

It is noteworthy that since the launch of the e-system by the NBR in 2021, 61,491 taxpayers filed e-returns for the 2021-2022 fiscal year, 244,481 for 2022-2023, and 526,487 for 2023-2024.

From 9 September onwards, individual taxpayers can easily complete their registration and file their returns for the 2024-2025 tax year by providing their details on the NBR website at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd.
