The United States has placed Bangladesh on its list of high-risk countries; along with Bangladesh, a total of 21 countries were included in the red list, with a Level 4 travel advisory issued for them.
A list in this regard was published by the US Department of State on X on Wednesday (4 September).
Besides Bangladesh, the countries on the list are Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Myanmar, Central African Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Yemen.
On 5 August, following an anti-discrimination movement, Sheikh Hasina resigned from office and sought refuge in India.
The very next day, the US Embassy website issued a Level 4 travel warning.
The advisory warned US citizens against travelling to Bangladesh due to the risks of civil unrest, crime, and terrorism.
