Biman Bangladesh Airlines' former director of marketing and sales, Dr Md Safiqur Rahman has been appointed as the managing director and CEO of the national carrier.
Biman's board of directors decided to appoint Dr Md Safiqur Rahman to this position during a meeting on Wednesday (4 September).
Dr Md Safiqur Rahman began his career at Biman Bangladesh Airlines in 1986 as a trainee commercial officer.
Over the years, he has held various key roles within the airline, including director of administration and human resources, director of procurement and logistics support, and director of marketing and sales.
In addition to these roles, Dr Md Safiqur Rahman has worked in several departments such as tariff, market research, reservations, and cargo.
He also served as country manager for Biman's stations in Singapore, Thailand, and Greece.
After a distinguished career, he retired in 2017.
Dr Md Safiqur Rahman holds a Bachelor's and a master's degree in economics from the University of Dhaka.
Furthermore, he completed an MBA in marketing from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and obtained a PhD in business administration from Southern Cross University, Australia, in 2011.
He has also completed multiple diplomas and training in aviation from the International Air Transport Association and the Bangladesh Airlines Training Centre.
