Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has claimed that individuals affiliated with the Awami League, along with outsiders, are behind the ongoing protests of workers from the ready-made garment sector and other industries in Savar, Ashulia, and Gazipur.

"Action to quell the unrest in the industrial zones would commence from today," he said when speaking to reporters following a meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday (4 September).

The meeting was presided over by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and attended by Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, and Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman.

"We have held several meetings with both the owners and the workers regarding the labour unrest. Our Industry Advisor has also been in discussions. What we have gathered from the labour leaders is that they themselves are unable to fully comprehend the nature of the ongoing movements, as no specific demands are being made," Asif Mahmud said.

The interim government is adopting a stringent stance to curb the ongoing unrest surrounding the country's ready-made garment industry.

Adviser Asif Mahmud expressed optimism that the situation would normalise swiftly.
