A senior-level United States delegation is set to visit Bangladesh this month to engage in discussions with the interim government on advancing bilateral relations.
"The delegation will be led by US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu," said Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (3 September).
"Bilateral issues will be discussed with the US delegation, and we will explore how to progress the relationship between the two countries in a changed political scenario," he added.
In the same briefing, Hossain highlighted that the successful diplomatic efforts leading to the release of expatriates detained for protesting in the United Arab Emirates are a notable achievement for Bangladesh.
"We are committed to ensuring that our expatriates do not face any difficulties. From the moment they depart Dhaka, we will strive to prevent any issues, even after they reach their destination," he added.
This visit will mark the first such engagement from the United States since the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, was established on 8 August.
According to a diplomatic source, once finalised, the delegation is expected to arrive in Dhaka before Professor Yunus departs for New York to attend the 79th UN General Assembly.
