The contractual appointment of Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has been cancelled, said Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain.

"Masud Bin Momen's tenure as foreign secretary was due to end this December with the completion of his two-year contractual agreement. However, his contractual appointment is set to be cancelled. A modest farewell ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Sunday afternoon to bid him farewell," the adviser said speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (1 September).

On 31st December 2019, Masud Bin Momen assumed office as the 26th Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh.

According to the mandatory retirement age, he was scheduled to retire in December 2022.

However, the then-Awami League government decided in November 2022 to extend his tenure for another two years in the same position.

The Ministry of Public Administration subsequently issued a notification appointing him as Senior Secretary on a contractual basis for the two-year period.

Sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have indicated that the notification cancelling Masud Bin Momen's contractual appointment has not yet been issued.

However, the process is expected to be completed by tonight. The farewell was organised following a green signal from the policymakers.
