The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed law enforcement personnel to disclose their identity before making any arrests during operations.
"Under no circumstances should anyone be arrested without the law enforcement personnel first identifying themselves. During any operation, law enforcement agencies are required to reveal their identity before proceeding with any arrest," said a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (1 September).
The statement, quoting Home Adviser Lt Gen (Rtd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, also informed that all firearms and ammunition licences that have been suspended must be surrendered to the relevant police station by 3 September.
Failure to comply will result in these items being classified as illegal weapons and ammunition, it added.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had previously announced that a joint operation to recover illegal arms would commence on Wednesday (4 September).
Following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina on 5 August, various police stations across the country were attacked, vandalised, and set on fire.
During these incidents, a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition stored in the stations was looted by the attackers.
Although some of these weapons and ammunition have since been recovered through law enforcement operations in different parts of the country, many remain missing.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct a joint operation to recover these weapons, along with other illegal arms still in possession of individuals.
