Govt to repair flood-damaged houses: LGRD Adviser

The government will take responsibility for repairing houses damaged in the ongoing floods, announced Farooq-e-Azam, Adviser for Local Government and Rural Development, on Saturday (31 August).

"A list will be compiled of houses damaged by the floods, and the government will take necessary steps to repair them," said the adviser during an interaction with flood-affected people in Forhadabad union of Hathazari upazila, Chattogram. He also assured that the government would work on the rehabilitation of those affected by the floods.

Later, Farooq-e-Azam visited the damaged embankment along the Halda River in the Purba Suabil area of Fatikchhari, where he spoke with several affected families.

During the inspection of the embankment, the adviser directed the Executive Engineer of the Chattogram Water Development Board to ensure that the reconstruction of the embankment is sustainable. "If money is spent, it should be effective and beneficial to the people. Work in a way that helps the public and does not harm their lives," he instructed.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Tofayel Islam, the Upazila Nirbahi Officers of Fatikchhari and Hathazari, and the Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board, along with other officials, were present during the visit.
