Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Friday to congratulate him on assuming leadership of the Interim Government of Bangladesh.
During the phone call, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need to revitalize relations between the two nations, highlighting the immense potential for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan extended his best wishes to Professor Yunus, expressing hope that the goodwill between the two South Asian countries would translate into substantial cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
Chief Adviser Professor Yunus expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sharif for the congratulatory message and phone call, following his swearing-in as Bangladesh's Chief Adviser after a student-led revolution.
Professor Yunus also thanked Prime Minister Sharif for the message of sympathy and solidarity sent on behalf of the people of Pakistan to the flood victims in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sharif expressed his willingness to provide support to those affected by the floods in the southern and southeastern parts of Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sharif underscored the necessity of resuming mechanisms such as foreign secretary-level consultations and the Joint Economic Commission between Dhaka and Islamabad. He also stressed the importance of reinvigorating the SAARC process.
Chief Adviser Yunus reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing SAARC as a top regional forum to strengthen ties among South Asian nations. He highlighted the need for regular SAARC summits and suggested holding a brief meeting among the heads of state and government of SAARC countries at the earliest convenience.
Professor Yunus also called for strengthening economic ties and enhancing people-to-people connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
