Flood death toll rises to 54, over 5.4 lakh affected

The death toll from the ongoing floods across 11 districts in the country has risen to 54, with over 5.46 million people affected.

Among the deceased, 19 are from Feni, 14 from Cumilla, eight from Noakhali, six from Chattogram, three from Cox's Bazar, and one each from Khagrachari, Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, and Moulvibazar districts.

Additionally, 1,009,522 families have been stranded in 64 upazilas across the 11 flood-hit districts—Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar.

Moreover, 5,464,167 people have been affected in 486 municipalities or unions within these districts.

Meanwhile, at least 469,687 people have taken shelter in 3,269 relief centers, while 38,192 domestic animals have also been accommodated there, according to data from the ministry.

A total of 567 medical teams are providing services in the flood-affected areas.

So far, a sum of Tk 4.52 crore has been allocated to the flood-stricken districts, along with 20,650 tonnes of rice, 15,000 pieces of dry food and other essential items, as well as baby food and fodder worth Tk 35 lakh each, according to the ministry.
