State Guest House Jamuna, the official residence of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has been declared free of plastic water bottles as part of a move towards environmental protection.

The initiative was spearheaded by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, according to a statement made by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, on his Facebook page on Thursday.

He wrote, “When I began my new role at the State Guest House Jamuna, plastic water bottles were everywhere. Half-liter plastic bottles could be seen on every dining table. Guests at Jamuna, where the Chief Adviser’s office is based, would drink from disposable plastic bottles. Three weeks later, the bottles are all gone, replaced by glasses. Today, during the weekly council of advisers meeting, water jugs and glasses were on the table.”

Syeda Rizwana Hasan also urged her fellow cabinet members to stop using plastic bottles. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus supported the initiative, and now Jamuna can be effectively called a plastic bottle-free zone.
