Death toll rises to 52 as floods devastate 9 districts affecting over 54 lakh people

The ongoing floods have claimed 52 lives across nine districts, affecting over 54.8 lakh people, with 3,403 shelters opened and 595 medical teams deployed to assist victims

The death toll from the ongoing floods across 9 districts in the country has risen to 52, with over 54.8 lakh people affected.

"Number of flood-affected districts remains at 11, with a total of 54.8 lakh people impacted. Among them, 1,072,579 families are currently trapped by floodwaters," said Adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Faruk-E-Azam during a press conference held at the secretariat on Thursday (29 August).

Ministry of Disaster Management’s updated report on the flood situation disclosed that out of the 52 individuals who have died across nine districts, 39 are men, 6 are women, and 7 are children.

Of the deceased, 17 are from Feni, 14 from Cumilla, 8 from Noakhali, 6 from Chattogram, 3 from Cox's Bazar, 1 from Khagrachari, 1 from Brahmanbaria, 1 from Lakshmipur, and 1 from Moulvibazar.

A total of 3,403 shelters have been established to provide refuge to those affected by the recent floods. These shelters are currently housing 502,501 people and 36,448 livestock.

To offer medical services to the victims in the 11 affected districts, a total of 595 medical teams have been deployed.

Additionally, the Ministry of Relief has assured that sufficient relief supplies are stocked in all districts across the country.
