The advisory council has given final approval to the repeal of the "Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act 2009", which was enacted to ensure the protection of the members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family.

The advisory council of the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, approved the final repeal of the law, subject to vetting during a meeting at State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday (29 August).

It has been informed that, as per the decision of the previous government, the "Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act, 2009 (Act No. 63 of 2009)" was enacted and issued.

On 15 May 2015, a gazette was issued under this law to provide special security and facilities. This law was made solely to provide state benefits to the members of a single family, which was a clear case of discrimination.

Following the anti-discrimination student-led public uprising, the current interim government has taken a firm resolve to eliminate all forms of discrimination.

In 2009, after the formation of the Awami League government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the ‘Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act 2009’ was enacted to ensure the security of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family.

Later, the matter was incorporated into the "Special Security Force (SSF) Act 2021", under which the members of Bangabandhu’s family received special protection from the security forces.

Additionally, the law mandates the provision of safe and secure housing and other necessary facilities to ensure the security of each member of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family.
