The death toll from the ongoing floods across 11 districts in the country has risen to 31, while a total of 5,822,734 people have been affected by the disaster.
This information was disclosed in the latest flood situation report released by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Wednesday (28 August).
According to the report, the flood-affected districts are Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox's Bazar.
A total of 73 upazilas have been submerged by the floodwaters, affecting 528 unions and municipalities.
In these 11 districts, 1,227,554 families have been trapped by the floodwaters, with the number of affected people reaching 5,822,734. The death toll stands at 31, with 12 fatalities in Cumilla, 2 in Feni, 5 in Chattogram, 1 in Khagrachari, 6 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Lakshmipur, and 3 in Cox's Bazar. Additionally, 2 people are reported missing in Moulvibazar.
A total of 4,003 shelters have been opened to provide refuge to the waterlogged and affected population.
These shelters are currently housing 540,510 people and 39,531 livestock. To provide medical services to the flood-affected victims, 619 medical teams have been deployed across the 11 districts.
The ongoing floods in Bangladesh have claimed 31 lives across 11 districts, with over 5.8 million people affected and widespread displacement.
