The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, made a courtesy call on Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on Tuesday at the state guest house Jamuna.
During the meeting, he underscored the necessity of reinvigorating trade and economic relations, as well as people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He expressed a strong willingness to strengthen bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of cooperation on multilateral platforms.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called for the revival of SAARC to enhance regional cooperation and boost economic collaboration in South Asia.
"SAARC could be a model of relationships like the European Union. We must work together for mutual benefits," he said.
The Pakistan High Commissioner conveyed that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the people of the country were deeply concerned about the devastation caused by the ongoing floods in Bangladesh. He stated that Pakistan stands ready to assist Bangladesh.
The High Commissioner also requested the easing of visa procedures for Pakistani citizens traveling to Bangladesh and the establishment of direct flights between the two countries.
He highlighted the need for increased engagement within the existing bilateral mechanisms between the two nations.
Additionally, he congratulated Bangladesh on its men’s cricket team’s maiden Test victory against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
