A court has sent 388 Ansar members to jail in four cases lodged for laying seize to secretariat, ransacking secretariat, launching attack on students.
The court issued the order on Monday after police presented the accused before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain, who ruled to keep them in jail until the investigation is completed.
The cases were filed at Ramna, Shahbagh, Paltan, and Airport Police Stations.
Of the 388 Ansar members, 189 were arrested under Shahbagh Police Station, 98 under Ramna Police Station, 95 under Paltan Police Station, and six under Airport Police Station.
A total of 426 individuals were named in the four cases, with approximately 3,000 unnamed Ansar members also implicated.
The incidents leading to the arrests occurred on Sunday night (25 August), despite the government having agreed to various demands from the Ansar force.
A faction of the group allegedly detained interim government advisers at the Secretariat and assaulted officers and employees.
Hasnat Abdullah criticised the Ansar forces for their perceived return to authoritarian behaviour and urged everyone to gather at the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University.
Responding to this call, students from Dhaka University attempted to march towards the Secretariat.
However, they were met with stone-pelting from Ansar members, who also used batons to beat several students.
During the clash, both sides engaged in throwing bricks and stones.
