COAST Foundation (www.coastbd.net) has started emergency rescues and dry food distribution in flood-hit Feni and Noakhali districts from its own fund.
In Noakhali, the flash flood situation deteriorated today due to incessant rains and tidal surges, said a press release.
Uncounted affected people took shelter in safe places. Approximately 3 million people were affected in different districts. According to government sources, nearly 300,000 people were evacuated from affected areas.
COAST field staff has engaged in emergency rescues and relief programme in Feni and Noakhali districts. Besides, COAST started providing dry food package distribution in shelter centres.
The organisation is supporting two local NGOs (OPCA and PRAN) from Noakhali to engage them in urgent relief and rescue work with dry food bottled water and saline in the shelters. COAST initially provided Tk800,000 for the relief works and plans to support more if needed. COAST is communicating with some donor agencies for a large scale of support for the flood-affected people.
COAST Executive Director M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury is coordinating everything from the central office, in Dhaka. Besides, some senior staff are supporting the field team to respond to the crisis-affected people.
The situation is very critical and urgent rescue support is required specially from the Feni district. Rescues boats, dry food and water are essential right now in the affected areas.
