The remaining exams of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent, which were postponed due to nationwide protests leading to the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, have been canceled.

Dhaka Education Board Chairman, Professor Tapan Kumar Sarker, made the announcement on Tuesday (20 August).

He said the decision regarding the evaluation process will be disclosed later.

Earlier in the day, students gathered in front of the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat, demanding the cancellation of the exams. In response to the demonstration, a meeting chaired by Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud decided that the remaining HSC and equivalent exams would be conducted with half the usual number of questions, and the exams would be deferred to 11 September.

However, the students remained steadfast in their demands and continued their protests. Later, a ten-member delegation representing the students went to the Ministry of Education to submit a memorandum and engage in discussions with the Education Advisor. Following this, the decision to cancel the exams was made.
