The Ministry of Education has announced a significant alteration to the schedule for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams.
Originally set to resume on 11 September following a prior postponement, the exams will now commence two weeks later, said Professor Tapan Kumar Sarker, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Wahiduddin Mahmud, the interim government's education adviser, on Tuesday (20 August).
The new format will see exams conducted with half of the originally planned questions.
This change comes in response to ongoing protests by students who have expressed dissatisfaction with the revised schedule. They have advocated for the results to be based on the exams already completed, citing injuries and academic disruptions caused by the recent violent clashes related to the quota reform movement.
The decision marks a shift from the education boards' previous plan to start the exams on 11 September, which had been met with resistance from the student community.
Students have argued that the movement's violence has severely impacted their ability to prepare adequately for the exams.
The HSC exams began on 30 June, but due to flooding, exams under the Sylhet Education Board, Madrasah Education Board in Sylhet Division, and Bangladesh Technical Education Board were delayed.
