Dhaka commuters have expressed frustrations amid the intense congestion on city roads brought forth by traffic chaos and numerous political marches and rallies by groups.
A firsthand observation of the Mirpur 10 to Shewrapara, Kazipara, and Agargaon routes revealed a near-standstill of buses and other vehicles amid the severe gridlock on Tuesday (20 August).
Areas like Kawran Bazar, Bangla Motor, and Shahbagh also witnessed severe traffic jams, with many frustrated passengers choosing to walk to their destinations.
The humidity and heat further aggravated the discomfort and frustration of commuters.
Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles were observed at the Bijoy Sarani signal, with the situation no better on the roads of Farmgate, where cars moved at a snail's pace.
Commutes now take two to three times longer than usual to travel from one location to another, said many.
The ongoing suspension of metro rail services has exacerbated the traffic chaos on the roads, leaving the public to face immense difficulties.
Buses are packed with passengers, with many clinging to the doors as they struggle to reach their offices on time.
In addition, various organisations, forums, and disenfranchised groups have been holding meetings, protest rallies, and human chains across the capital over the past two days, further contributing to the traffic disruptions.
