United Nations (UN) is prepared to assist Bangladesh in navigating the current crisis, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

"They [UN] want to help us and have sought to understand how they can offer their support," he said following a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis on Monday (19 August).

In response to a question from journalists, the adviser stated that discussions were held regarding the types of assistance the UN could provide at this critical juncture.

He also mentioned that the Rohingya issue was part of the conversation.

Moreover, a UN delegation is expected to arrive within a few days to further discuss the nature of assistance required by Bangladesh and how the UN can effectively contribute.
