Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning that thunderstorms accompanied by winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep across Dhaka and 10 other districts.

The advisory, which remains in effect until 1:00pm on Monday (19 August), has been issued for all inland river ports in the affected regions.

The districts under this warning include Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Jashore, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar.

BMD Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir stated that gusty winds originating from the south or southeast are likely to reach speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour.

These winds may be accompanied by rainfall or thunderstorms, he added.

As a precaution, river ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number one.

In a separate weather bulletin, the BMD reported that a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low.

This development is expected to bring thunderstorms and rain to all divisions across the country over the coming days.

The bulletin further warned that some regions might experience moderate to very heavy rainfall during this period.
