Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Laureate economist and Chief Adviser of the interim government, has affirmed the government's commitment to conducting free and fair elections.

"The interim government is dedicated to ensuring inclusive and pluralistic democracy through transparent, fair, and participatory elections," said the chief adviser in a virtual speech at the Third Voice of the Global South Summit held in New Delhi, India, on Saturday.

He said the interim government is also committed to reforming the electoral system, judiciary, local government, media, economy, and education system.

During his address, Dr. Yunus also extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Bangladesh.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had formally invited Dr. Yunus to attend the summit. The invitation was extended during a phone call between the leaders on 16 August.

According to the Chief Adviser's press wing, Dr. Yunus accepted the invitation and agreed to participate virtually from Dhaka.

India had previously hosted the First Voice of the Global South Summit on 12-13 January 2023, and the Second Voice of the Global South Summit on 17 November, 2023, in virtual formats. Over 100 countries from the Global South participated in both earlier versions of the summit.
