Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a storm warning for 16 districts, including the capital Dhaka - forecasting winds of up to 60km/h.
"The storm is expected to occur by midday," the BMD said in its latest bulletin on Friday (16 August).
It prompted authorities to instruct river ports in these regions to display cautionary signals.
This forecast, issued for the period from 5:00am to 1:00pm, indicates that regions including Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Pabna, Rangpur, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet may experience temporary squalls or thunderstorms accompanied by rain, driven by winds from the south or southeast at speeds ranging between 45-60 km/h.
In response, river ports in these areas have been instructed to display signal no 1 as a precautionary measure.
