Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organised sit-in protests across the capital and the entire country on Thursday (15 August), demanding justice for what they term a massacre perpetrated against students and civilians through gunfire and the trial of the misdeeds of the Awami League government.
The demonstration forms part of the BNP's three-day continuous protest programme.
BNP's Central Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku stated that the sit-in protests would be conducted in every district and sub-district nationwide, as well as in the wards of Dhaka.
In the afternoon, a sit-in is scheduled to take place in front of the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
Earlier, the BNP announced a three-day continuous protest programme, running from 14 August to 16 August.
The events include sit-ins in front of party offices and prayers and milad mahfils for those who were killed or injured in the recent demonstrations.
Aminul Haque, the member secretary of the BNP Dhaka Metropolitan North, warned that the spectres of Sheikh Hasina's autocratic government are still prevalent in various localities, conspiring against the people.
He urged everyone to remain vigilant and cautious against these plots.
In alignment with the central programme, peaceful marches will be organised in each ward of Dhaka, with party leaders and activists stationed at key points to prevent Awami League militants from reasserting themselves.
BNP's youth, volunteer, farmer, and student wings, along with affiliated organisations, have made extensive arrangements. Party members will be positioned in localities to prevent any attempts to destabilise the situation.BNP
