The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced its intention to engage with the new interim government of Bangladesh to support development, according to a statement issued by the Manila-based development partner on Wednesday.
The ADB reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing partnership with Bangladesh, emphasizing support for the country’s sustainable development in alignment with the aspirations of its people.
The statement noted that the ADB's collaboration with the interim government aims to ensure the continuation of ongoing projects and to promote a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for Bangladesh.
Gobinda Bar, Senior Communications Officer at the Bangladesh Resident Mission of the ADB, issued the statement.
The ADB highlighted that its core focus in Bangladesh is on public sector management and governance, an area that has become increasingly important in light of recent events.
The Bank will continue to work with the interim government on macro-fiscal sustainability, with a focus on fiscal consolidation and domestic resource mobilization.
Additionally, the ADB will prioritize the expansion of private sector development to enhance competitiveness and create new employment opportunities. This includes collaborating with the interim government to streamline government-to-business services and reduce the cost of doing business in Bangladesh.
Since 1973, the ADB has been a trusted development partner of Bangladesh, contributing to its progress through 726 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance, totaling $31.8 billion, according to the statement.
“We look forward to continuing this important work with the interim government and the people of Bangladesh,” the statement concluded.
